Last summer, Twitter unveiled a couple of interesting new features, a @username tab and a Activity tab, both of which promised to keep users in touch with what people were doing on Twitter, related to them and their followers.Of course, while the announcement was in August, most people
didn't get the new features straight away. In fact, Twitter is only now
announcing that the Activity tab is available to everyone and visible on their Twitter page.
Many users may have even spotted the notification Twitter is running when first logging into the site and seeing the two new tabs.
But there seems to be a problem somewhere, as Twitter has now rolled back the roll out and has reverted, at least some users, to the old version of the site, without the @username and the Activity tabs.
It may be a glitch or it may be that Twitter encountered a problem that made it roll back the changes.
It would be strange to discover problems at this stage, since Twitter has been testing the new features for over two months now with real users. Most likely, it's a scaling issue.
Twitter has acknowledged the problem in another
tweet. "We've temporarily disabled the Activity Tab for all users. We'll restore this feature shortly," Twitter support wrote.
That was nine hours ago. Whatever the problem though, it is temporary and the Activity and @username tabs will be restored soon enough.
When they will be brought back, users will be able to keep track of all of the activity around their profiles, who retweets them, who adds one of their tweets to their favorites and so on.
At the same time, users will be able to check out what the people they follow are up to, who is retweeting what, which profiles they start following and so on.
