Twitter is shifting its strategy and urges users to post more pics

Following Twitter’s disastrous week on the stock market, the company seems to be getting desperate and it has started to urge users to post more pictures.

With stock prices tanking following a mediocre earnings report in the first quarter of the year, Twitter is trying to bring users back to the platform and urges them to become more active and to share more pictures.

“Share your best photos on Twitter,” reads a message received by users everywhere, along with a description of its offering.

“Twitter is for sharing standout moments. And not just with text. It lets you tell stories – as they happen – with photos. Our new photo features make sharing your pics a snap,” Twitter writes.

The company has also included a quick guide on how to share photographs on Twitter and just how easy everything is. It even flags Twitter’s built-in photo filters and points out that multiple photos can be uploaded at the same time, complete with people tagging.

It’s a bit unclear exactly what Twitter’s intentions are since the platform has always been more oriented towards text and less towards photography. Of course, in recent months, the company has shifted towards turning its user interface into a Facebook replica; at least as far as the platform permitted.

A more subtle note is the fact that Twitter is trying to convey that it incorporates everything that you could want. On one hand, it looks like Facebook, but prettier; it lets you share things about yourself, including pictures, which it lets you edit as you would on Instagram.

Then, it even lets you send pictures via direct messages, as in popular messaging apps or on Facebook. This falls in line with the efforts that Twitter has been making to rebrand the DM feature as a messaging tool, despite some failures in this area. As a reminder, the company tried to implement a feature that would allow users to receive DMs from anyone, which the community saw as a violation of privacy. This idea didn’t have a long life and it vanished in just a few days.

While Twitter has really been trying to change the way it appears in front of users and how it is perceived in the community, always trying to compete with services that put the stress on the social aspect of their tools, the company hasn’t really been succeeding.

One of the reasons for this is the fact that it continues to stick by the 140 characters limit, which makes it difficult for people to actually share more about themselves. However, this is a defining feature for the network and it is likely here to stay forever.
