The account will offer special or exclusive deals

A few days ago Twitter created the @earlybird account, but didn’t have too much information to share at the time. The account is now active and Twitter says it will serve as a way for people to get exclusive and time-bound deals of several types of products. It’s an interesting move from Twitter, one that could prove very successful if handled right.

“Twitter @earlybird Exclusive Offers are special time-bound deals, sneak-peeks, and events that are promoted by the official Twitter @earlybird account. We partner with select advertisers and retweet offers that they have crafted only for the Twitter community,” Twitter’s help page on the @earlybird account reads.

“Many of you use Twitter to stay on top of timely, relevant information, and lots of businesses are already sharing special offers on Twitter. We believe that surfacing deals through the @earlybird account will help you discover the best of those deals, as well as find and follow accounts that consistently provide exceptional value,” the page explains.

The account is pretty much what we expected when it was quietly introduced. It will be used to highlight special offers that advertisers will want to promote. These may be offers that the advertisers have already tweeted about or special @earlybird deals.

All you have to do to keep an eye out for new offers is to follow @earlybird, it will function just like any other Twitter account. You may also see these offers if the people you follow retweet one. Of course, you can unfollow the account at any point if you’re not interested anymore.

For now, offers will be either global or focused on the US market. Twitter says that may eventually change and more localized deals will be available. Category-based deals may also be introduced for those that may be interested in only a certain type of offers. @earlybird already has about 10,000 followers despite not featuring any deals yet. The @earlybird account is the latest move in the advertising space from Twitter and the company has been very focused on revenue lately.
