Twitter Inc. has released an official announcement confirming that its popular TweetDeck application will be discontinued for multiple platforms, including Apple’s iOS, next month.

Originally developed by Iain Dodsworth, TweetDeck is a cool dashboard app for managing your Twitter and Facebook accounts.

The service was acquired by Twitter in May of 2011, and while it is still enjoying a fair dose of popularity today, it has become increasingly difficult for Twitter to maintain it.

“TweetDeck AIR, TweetDeck for Android and TweetDeck for iPhone will be removed from their respective app stores and will stop functioning on May 7,” the company confirmed today.

Twitter is also axing its Facebook integration on the same day. iOS users can still download a copy of TweetDeck for iPhone at the link below.
