Twitter Inc. is pulling the plug on TweetDeck for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, according to an announcement made by the microblogging company yesterday, March 4, 2013.

Twitter says it wishes to continue to offer a great product that addresses customers’ unique needs, and that doesn’t include iOS anymore. Apparently, the company sees the web as a far better suited platform for development.

The microblogging service notes, “we’re going to focus our development efforts on our modern, web-based versions of TweetDeck. To that end, we are discontinuing support for our older apps: TweetDeck AIR, TweetDeck for Android and TweetDeck for iPhone.”

TweetDeck will be removed from the iOS App Store, at which point users will also stop receiving any updates for their current installations. Yes, you get to keep your app on your iPhone, if you want.

Twitter put a cherry on top, adding “We’ll also discontinue support for our Facebook integration.”

Oh, that’s it? Are you sure our iPhones won’t blow up too?
