Entrepreneurs are a fickle bunch, they put a lot of passion into their businesses and products, but are just as likely to move on to the next shiny thing once things settle down. It happens over and over again and it seems to be happening at Twitter as well.

One thing that may be connected to that is the increasing role that Twitter creator Jack Dorsey has at the company, after being ousted as CEO several years ago.

According to a couple of reports, Dorsey which invented the first iteration of Twitter, is now more hands on with the product. He had already been working as a 'consultant' of sorts and has the official title of chairman, but it was mostly just that, a title.

Now though he is more involved with the day to day operations and especially with the product itself.

Apparently, he may be getting a more formal gig and start working full time at Twitter and is negotiating a position. There are several alternatives but the most likely is along the lines of chief product officer.

Of course, he is also CEO of the well known mobile payments startup Square, a company he founded, and he's unlikely to give up that job for something at Twitter. But maybe he can manage both jobs.

Last year, Twitter cofounder Evan Williams gave up his role as CEO of Twitter, which, incidentally, he took from Dorsey in 2008, to get more involved with product strategy and development. That's the official story at least, it seems that he is hardly ever present at the company anymore.

Biz Stone, the other Twitter cofounder is not coming by that much either. Meanwhile, Dorsey is increasingly more involved, which is why the company wanted to make this more official. Still, Twitter wouldn't confirm the move.

Twitter is lucky to have the involvement of its founders. As we said last fall, we’re fortunate that our chairman, Jack Dorsey, has been able to get even more engaged in the company. His assistance has and will continue to be invaluable," Twitter told TechCrunch.
