Twitter is celebrating its seventh birthday, the anniversary of the first tweet by Jack Dorsey. The tweet just said "just setting up my twttr," if you're curious. Yes, it was called twttr back then.
The site took the opportunity to boast about a new milestone, 200 million active users.
These users create 400 million tweets every day, Twitter says. The company also put together a greatest hits video, going through the major milestones of the past seven years.
"As we’ve grown, Twitter has become a true global town square — a public place to hear the latest news, exchange ideas and connect with people all in real time," Twitter
wrote.
"This is where you come to connect with the world at large. Get on your soapbox to critique elected officials, or go sotto voce to the neighbor next to you," it added.
It's hard to deny that Twitter has had an impact on our world. Maybe not as big as some would believe, but it's hard to imagine the web or TV without it.
