The new version seems to be considerably faster than any of the previous ones

Good news for Windows Phone 8.1 early adopters as Twitter is about to launch a new version of its client that has been specifically designed for the new operating system.

Unfortunately, Twitter Beta for Windows Phone 8.1 was only briefly available for download on Windows Phone Store before being pulled by developers.

However, the folks over at WPCentral have been able to download and install this beta version of Twitter for Windows Phone 8.1 devices and have shared some of their impressions.

Apparently, the new Twitter is faster than any of the previous versions, but there are some options that have yet to be introduced or they have been removed completely. For example the Share feature is nowhere to be seen.

However, that is understandable given the fact that the application is still in beta and some features have yet to be added. Here are some of the features that Windows Phone 8.1 users should expect in the upcoming version of Twitter.

Photos Hub integration, which will allow users to see and access any photo posted to Twitter. This feature should be included in the stable version of Twitter for Windows Phone 8.1.

Another useful feature that should make it into the next version of Twitter is complete Me Tile integration, so when posting a status update, the Twitter compose window would launch automatically.

The “Shared to” feature is expected to be fixed, so that third-party applications will be allowed to access Twitter for link sharing.

Auto-scroll to latest mention with auto-refresh is another useful tweak that should be integrated into the next version of Twitter for Windows Phone 8.1

Some other performance improvements may be added as well, along with some bug fixes, but until the official app gets out, there’s nothing we can confirm yet.

As WPCentral points out, Twitter for Windows Phone 8.1 was only briefly available for download on Windows Phone Store. It’s unclear whether it was published inadvertently or Twitter planned this ahead, in order for a limited number of Windows Phone 8.1 users to be able to download it.

The application has since been removed from Windows Phone Store, but its placeholder still remains, so you can see a few comments that some of the users who got to download it left there for everyone to see them. Other than that, there’s nothing else we can do but wait for the public release of Twitter for Windows Phone 8.1.
