Twitter, the social networking and microblogging service that enables its users to send and read other users' messages called tweets, has just announced the release of its official Twitter application for Apple's iPad.

Twitter for iPad takes advantage of the device's fluid touch interface, and lets users move around the information displaying on the screen, smoothly and quickly.

Of course, there's no need to open or close windows, or even click any buttons.

The new app also brings new features that iPad users will be able to take advantage, such as: Panes, Media, and Gestures.

The Panes feature lets users tap on a Tweet to open a pane to the right. Depending on the content in that Tweet, you’ll see a video or photo, or maybe a news story, or perhaps another Tweet.

The action can be repeated as many times as the user wants, every new tapped Tweet will open new panes, and get new content. You can easily switch between these panes by swiping to the right or left.

The new Media feature enables users to play videos online, when they tap a video link or open a web page with an embedded video.

While the video is loading users will be able to swipe through panes in Twitter, and then they can just swipe back to the video when it’s ready to play. To watch the video in full screen, simply pinch it.

The Gestures feature enables users to quickly view details about the author of a Tweet, and to take actions on a Tweet, such as reply or retweet, by simply pinching on that Tweet .

Basically, you have to put two fingers together and pull down on a Tweet to check out the replies, showing the entire conversation leading to that Tweet.

Twitter for iPad is available for free starting today worldwide from the AppStore.
