On Monday, hackers of Anonymous Brazil hijacked a couple of Twitter accounts operated by VEJA, a popular Brazilian weekly news magazine that’s distributed throughout the country.

The hacktivists called out to their supporters and asked them to join the protests against the rise in public transportation fares, HackRead reports.

VEJA representatives have admitted that their @VEJA and @RadarOnline accounts have been hijacked. The latter account is operated by Lauro Jardin, the magazine’s editor-in-chief.

Shortly after discovering the breach, VEJA asked Twitter to block the hacked profiles. Later, the accounts were recovered and the hackers’ tweets were deleted.

Several hacktivist collectives from Brazil are currently protesting against the authorities’ decision to raise bus and subway prices by 10 cents. Some of them are busy leaking what they claim to be information stolen from the police, while others are taking down government websites with distributed denial-of-service (DDOS) attacks.
