Twitter Inc. is rolling out a major update for mobile users, starting with iOS customers. Twitter 6.3 for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch offers the new ability to share four photos in a tweet and an option to tag up to 10 people without taxing your character count.

According to the official announcement, beginning with version 6.3 you can tag up to 10 people in a photo. When someone tags you, a notification pops up. But you can refuse notifications if you want. Twitter explains:

“Tagging people in a picture makes conversations around photos fun and easy. And tagging doesn’t affect character count in the Tweet — you can tag up to 10 people in a photo and still have all 140 characters at your disposal, making it easier to connect with your friends. If you’re the one being tagged, you’ll get a notification. You can adjust notifications, as well as who can tag you, in your Settings. To learn more, read this Help Center article.”

Another neat feature of Twitter 6.3 is the option to share up to 4 photos per tweet. Previously you could only share one. This ability, however, does take its toll on the character count, but it makes for a fun new social feature.

“And now, you can also share a series of photos that automatically create a collage,” says Twitter. “Just tap on a preview to get the full image and slide through the group. [...] Whether you’re on iPhone, Android or twitter.com, you can view Tweets with multiple photos.”

For now, the ability to upload multiple photos is rolling out to iPhone users, but it will soon be available to Android customers as well. Twitter.com is also getting the feature in the near future, according to the company.

Embedded Tweets will support and display both photo-tagging and Tweets with multiple photos.

Twitter on iOS supports English, Arabic, Bokmål, Norwegian, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Hebrew, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Malay, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, Traditional Chinese, and Turkish.

The app requires iOS 6.0 and works with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPad second generation, iPad third generation, iPad fourth generation, iPad Air, iPad mini, iPad mini with Retina display, iPod touch fourth generation, and iPod touch fifth generation.
