14 DAY TRIAL // As reported earlier this week, Twitter has a ton of goodies in store for its faithful fans, all crammed inside version 4.3 of the iOS client on Apple’s App Store. Highlights include expanded tweets, push and ambient notifications, and improvements to search autocomplete.
“Follow your interests: instant updates from your friends, industry experts, favorite celebrities, and what’s happening around the world. Get short bursts of timely information on the official Twitter app,” says Twitter Inc.
“View trends, browse your interests and see suggested users in several categories, including fashion, entertainment and travel, or search to find out what people are saying about topics you care about, such as politics or big sporting events.”
In Twitter 4.3 you can now see content previews and images, play videos and more, when you view tweet details containing links to partner websites.
Twitter Inc. asks users to note that they’re rolling out this feature gradually, meaning some things will work better than others until everything is ironed out.
There’s an “enhanced experience” around selected events, says the company, “with the best Tweets and photos from those involved.”
Mobile users finally get Push Notifications for Tweets, with the ability to choose to receive notifications anytime important people tweet or retweet.
The Ambient Notifications setting enables you to see brief non-interruptive notifications in the status bar while you are using the app, and the search autocomplete for users has been enhanced.
The Discover tab now indicates when new stories are available for you to view, and avatars are now tappable, which means they’ll take you straight to user profiles. Other changes include:
- Performance improvements - Support for password entry in app when experiencing authentication issues - Hungarian language support - Updated with new Twitter bird - Many other tweaks, polish, and bug and crasher fixes
