Video game streaming service Twitch is announcing that it will no longer allow its users to stream video games that have received an Adults Only rating from the ESRB as it seeks to make sure that the audience is now exposed to any sort of nefarious content.

The company says that it is changing its policy to make sure that it no longer needs to rule for individual titles in the future, a process that left some gamers frustrated.

The official announcement states, "While the ESRB ratings apply exclusively to US titles, our policy extends to versions of these games in all territories. Generally, if the US version is rated for Adults Only (18+) or has an equivalent rating in your territory, you should not broadcast that game on Twitch."

All Twitch users are invited to offer their feedback on the new policy, and the rules of conduct will continue to be updated based on the delivered opinions.

The official site of the Entertainment Software Ratings Board has a full list of the titles that have been rated as Adults Only over time.

Twitch has grown into a massive service for the world of gaming, used by both players to show off their performance and by companies who are looking to reach a wider potential audience for their titles.

Adult content is welcomed in other areas of the industry

Twitch might be banning streaming for Adults Only video games and might place more restrictions in the coming months as it tries to make sure that no group of players is affected by the content it discovers on the service.

On the other hand the leader of the company working on the Oculus Rift has announced that it has no plans to ban adult content from the virtual reality solution because it wants to keep the platform as open as possible.

Blizzard was recently criticized by some fans for the fact that it has removed the cigar associated with Tychus in Heroes of the Storm.

The company said that it chose to self-censor itself in order to make sure that the game would be launched on as many markets as possible and that it would not need to create two versions of the character, which would pose a number of logistical problems.
