There is nothing more sophisticated than an elegant poetic combination between jewels and high tech. Since more and more women prefer receiving plasmas rather than chocolate or cars, I think none of them would say "no" to such a luxurious line of electronics.

Unfortunately for you gentlemen, the Philips-Swarowski Active Crystals collection is expected to arrive in the US this August. And believe me, news spreads fast, so you'd better add one of this on the shopping list!

The first devices that are going to be jewel encrusted are the old boring USB drives. With a single Swarowski touch, every item can turn into a two piece heart-shaped locked drive, dubbed "Heart Beat" by the manufacturers, while for the cool retractable padlock-shaped, they chose "Lock Out" for a name. Under the glamorous look, these babies can hold 1GB of files and more
and will probably retail somewhere around $179.

The next on the list are the Philips earphones. They are going to be carefully embedded in big shinny gems for each ear.

Swarowski created four different styles of headsets to satisfy every taste. The over-the-head set is called "Icon" and can be bought for $79, while the $149 set of earbuds with green neck strap is called "Amazon".

Even if the Philips-Swarovki combo has produced quite a stir in the fashion-high tech industry, they look classier than anyone would have expected and had then the same effect as the Swarovski mobile communication device created a while ago.

This type of luxurious devices is perfect for a fusing lifestyle in the overcrowded cities where technology can naturally become fashionable.

For the moment, the Active Crystals range of products includes only accessories and storage devices.

According to Gizmodo's Rudy Provoost, Chief Executive Officer, Philips Consumer Electronics, "Philips' alliance with Swarovski combines two distinct and strong brands in order to create a unique proposition for consumers, The outcome of the alliance is a range of products that go back to the essence of what many women are looking for: the fusion of functionality and fashion through a unique combination of technology and elegance. We are combining luxurious design with the practical, everyday benefits of consumer electronics to complement Philips' brand promise".

And when one of the leaders in the fashion and jewelry industry joins Philips, it is impossible not to believe that these jewels have some high tech soul, after all!
