The teens have spoken and, as far as they’re concerned, they’re still heavily into “Twilight,” Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus and, more recently, “Gossip Girl.” Celebrities and fans – only a few lucky ones of the 83 million who have voted – gathered at the Gibson Amphitheatre on Sunday for the 2009 edition of the Teen Choice Awards. The ceremony, MTV informs, will air today, Monday, August 10, at 10:00 p.m. ET on Fox.

“Twilight” scored no less than 11 awards in the most important categories, which means Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, Kristen Stewart, Nikki Reed and director Catherine Hardwicke all received appreciative nods for their work on the first installment of what promises to be the biggest and most successful movie franchise in the history of cinematography, “The Twilight Saga.” As it usually happens when the “Twilight” cast makes an appearance, the shrieking and screaming coming from the fans marked every moment when they took the stage, MTV reports.

“Once inside, the awards were presented fast and furious. Lautner, Ashley Greene, Kellan Lutz, Justin Chon, Robert Pattinson, Nikki Reed, Jackson Rathbone and Catherine Hardwicke took the stage and braved the shrieks to take home surfboard trophies for Best Drama, Romance, Actor (Pattinson), Actress (Stewart), Villain (Cam Gigandet), Fresh Face Female (Greene), Fresh Face Male (Lautner), Liplock (Stewart and Pattinson) and Rumble (Pattinson and Gigandet). Another highlight came when RPattz and Megan Fox came onstage together to accept their matching Hottie awards.” says the aforementioned source.

Another highlight of the evening was when Miley Cyrus, the undeniable princess of pop for teens around the world, presented Britney Spears with the Ultimate Choice Award for her entire career and contribution to pop music. Friends of the young Disney star compared the two sharing the same stage with some sort of “passing of the torch” ceremony, although most of them, and fans included, wished Spears had also performed, because that would have been the perfect ending for a perfect night. She didn’t though, but Black Eyed Peas and Sean Kingston did, both acts rocking the crowd with their amazing and unique performances.

As for the “Twilight” stars, some of them still can’t believe the kind of luck they have to have been blessed with such amazing and supportive fans. “We had a fantastic night. We pulled in 11 [awards] – that was amazing. I got to sit next to my Ashley Greene, and she won ‘Fresh Face,’ along with Taylor. It was amazing to have everything go the way it did.” Jackson Rathbone told MTV.
