Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart take home MTV Movie Award for Best Kiss in “Twilight”

The 2009 MTV Movie Awards was the place to be / watch last night, as not only did it mean rapper Eminem making his triumphant comeback on stage, but was also a true delight for all “Twilight” fans. Aside from the official “New Moon” trailer premiere, the awards ceremony also included plenty of “Twilight” moments, from heartthrob Robert Pattinson taking the stage and making some (reportedly awkward) jokes, to the first film in the franchise scooping five awards and thus becoming the biggest winner of the night.

One thing that “Twilight” did not lack at this year’s edition of the awards was, aside from hordes of screaming fans, nominations. Consequently, winning awards in five of the most important categories was not really that much of a surprise, but it did serve to prove that, by all counts, “The Twilight Saga” promises to be one of the biggest and most bankable vampire franchises of our times, as MTV also points out.

According to the aforementioned source, the “Twilight” stars got to walk home with the popcorn award for Best Kiss (Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart), Best Fight (the epic battle between Pattinson and Cam Gigandet), Best Male Breakthrough Performance (Pattinson, of course), Best Female Performance (Kristen Stewart) and, as millions of fans hoped, for Best Movie, with director Catherine Hardwicke taking the stage to pick up the award.

The acceptance speeches of all “Twilight” stars were lively, funny and, surprisingly enough, a bit awkward as well, as MTV reveals. Coming up on stage to receive her award for Best Female Performance, Kristen thanked the fans and Stephenie Meyer for making her win happen. As she was about to take her leave, the emotions got the best of the star and she dropped her award on the floor but not before joggling with it as she was trying to catch it. She did, though, manage to save face by returning to the mike and saying “So, I was just about as awkward as you thought I would be. Bye!” and then running off stage.

Pattinson, on the other hand, tried to somehow downplay the “Twilight” phenomenon and his winning for Best Fight – although the screaming fans were clearly not agreeing with him. “I should just say that in reality, Cam would have beaten me hands down, so I have to say thank you to my stunt double, who did everything in the fight.” Robert said. His awkward moment came a bit later, as he thanked audiences for the Best Breakthrough Male Performance award and hinted that being so famous was doing unexpected things to his bladder. “I don’t know how many more of these awards I can come up for, because I think there’s a little bit coming out of my pants right now.”

Either way, “Twilight” stars and fans had a blast at the 2009 MTV Movie Awards ceremony. For those who missed it, below is the bit in which Kristen Stewart drops her award.
