Last two installments will be shot in 3D, report says

A short while ago, word got out in the media that the last installment of “The Twilight Saga,” based on the fourth book by Stephenie Meyer, “Breaking Dawn,” would go into production this summer, which meant Summit Entertainment had to decide quickly whether it wanted it to be one or two movies. The studio is inclining towards the latter – moreover, as Risky Business informs, it will go down the 3D route.

It’s no longer a secret that making films in 3D is much more lucrative than the traditional way, in 2D. Films like “Avatar,” “Clash of the Titans” and even the smaller-budget “Zombieland 2” have proven or will prove that this is a chance worth of taking. For one, ticket prices are higher but, regardless of that, these productions manage to attract more fans into theaters. As such, the idea of making “Breaking Dawn” in 3D seems a very savvy business decision on part of Summit.

“The pluses are obvious. […] The downside? The fans. Some are already begging Summit not to do it. But it’s highly unlikely that any will pass up the chance to watch the last few final strains of this teenage vampire-human-wolfman soap opera. Even if they decided to film it with puppets. Summit apparently has to make a decision on both fronts soon – by the end of the month – to meet production deadlines. Our bet is they decide to go whole hog, or wolf, as it were: two films, in 3D, with much to gain and little to lose,” Risky Business writes.

At least one decision has been made, RobertPattinsonFan says, citing well-placed sources on the inside, namely that the fourth book will actually be divided into two movies. “I have this from several sources, and it’s definitive. Filming on the back-to-back movies would begin in mid-October, and Summit Entertainment is looking at ‘high end’ directors. Breaking Dawn is the longest in Stephenie Meyer’s 4-book series lengthwise and it’s the most graphic – presenting birth, attempted murder, death, and of course vampire bites,” the aforementioned fansite says.

So, “Breaking Dawn” goes into production this year, either as a single movie or as two, either in traditional 2D or as 3D. That last part is a rather huge risk to take but, as Summit reportedly stands now, it’s one well worth it.
