Indeed, Robert Pattinson has very loyal and loving fans, who would do anything to defend him against anyone picking on him. Actor D.B. Sweeney got a taste of that for himself, after he called Rob a “douche” on Twitter.

The whole thing started a few days ago, after Robert made an appearance on The Daily Show to promote his latest film, “Cosmopolis.”

As it must be well known, this marked the first time the actor gave an interview since the Kristen Stewart cheating scandal, which reportedly ended their 3+-year romance that started on the set of the first “Twilight” film.

Fans might have been waiting forward for the interview, even though Rob didn't exactly talk about Kristen (see the video below) but, for Sweeney, it was the right moment to crack a joke – a very uninspired one, if you ask Pattinson's fans, aka the Twi-hards or the “Twilight” fans.

“Just saw Pattinson on #DailyShow trying to figure out what took k-stew so long to look around with this douche astride her. #holytwit,” he wrote.

The response was instantaneous and, judging by the actor's next tweet, incredibly harsh: fans didn't appreciate it that he was picking on their idol.

“Hey #twilight genuises – try decaf! A little too worked up over a skinny vampire,” Sweeney tweeted.

Because the abuse continued pouring in, Sweeney later retweeted some of the things they wrote to him, ranging from obscenities about his mother to reproaches that he should never pick on a fellow actor who, though younger, has a more impressive career than he does.

Others, less creative, simply told him that they hated him and that they wished him dead.

“Nice language twi-hards. Or should i say tards? Love the inchoate indignation,” Sweeney wrote. He later explained that he didn't mean to write “tards” but “turds.”

“Dear twihards. Its been a difficult time. First tom and kate. Now rob and kristin im in a spiral. Youre caring abuse has been a comfort. Im willing to let the whole thing drop if R-patz apologizes. And does 40 hours of community service,” the actor wrote only a few hours ago.

As far as we know, the fans are yet to be appeased or let this one go.
