All of the users on Twitter make for a great data set with the thousands of tweets coming in all the time. There is a great number of services trying to harness all the data and provide important and interesting statistics and real time trends.

But now a new service takes a more light approach and lets users find out the general feel on Twitter about a particular topic. Called TweetFeel, it gives a numeric representation of what Twitter users are saying about an event, movie or whatever subject you can come up with.

“This new application scours Twitter for Tweets about brands of your choice and shows you how positively or negatively Twitter users feel about it. Whether it’s Dell or Poptarts or Madonna, we’ll show you a sample of recent tweets as well as an overall rating for the brand. It’s a quick way to get a feel for what people are thinking!” the Conversition Strategies, the research marketing startup behind TweetFeel, wrote.

Twitter offers a similar feature in the advanced search panel allowing users to search tweets with a positive or negative feel but this is based solely on the use of emoticons. TweetFeel, however, adds words and phrases to the analysis and uses a more complex algorithm to determine whether a tweet is positive or negative on the subject.

Entering a subject will start a real-time search on Twitter and the service will count every appearance of the topic that can be attributed to either a positive or negative feel. As more tweets come in, the results are counted and the site also offers the percentage of tweets that are negative or positive, whichever is the biggest. While it's doubtful it can be used as tool to provide valuable data to companies or interested individuals, it can give a hint of the overall feel but also be quite fun.
