Twitter has made it into the mainstream in a big way, if only by the number shows involving, or making fun of, the micro-blogging service. The latest to join the party is online video site Break.com, which is launching a new show starring Mike Polk and titled Tweet Boxx. Obviously, one 'x' just didn't cut it for the young male audience Break.com usually targets.
“Never has so much been written, said and discussed about the power of 140 words,” Keith Richman, CEO of Break Media, which operates Break.com, said. “We think Twitter has risen to a place in the technosphere that it deserves a weekly show that laughs about and muses about all that is said and discussed on Twitter by the famous and not so famous.”
The show promises to “discuss, dissect and diss all things that makes [sic.] us laugh, cry and scratch our heads” on Twitter and finding content shouldn't be much of a problem with 18 million users and a great number of celebrities regularly using the platform.
Mike Polk, the host of the new show, comes from HBOLabs, which was acquired by Break Media last year, and starred in the somewhat popular series “Man in The Box,” of which HBO produced 150 episodes. The first episode is already available and, from the looks of it, promises to be a great show to watch if you're skeptical about the new social media phenomenon and maybe even if you're a Twitter addict.
It's not alone in mocking Twitter, though, with the recently revamped Tonight Show having a “Twitter Tracker” regular section, where new host Conan O'Brien makes satirical comments on some of the more
interesting celebrity tweets. Still, with the sheer number of twitters, there might be room for one more show.
