After a year and a half of absence, the TurnKey Linux project has just published news about the next major version of their Debian-based virtual appliance library, which will be based on the recently released Debian GNU/Linux 8.0 (Jessie) operating system.

Today we can report that the first RC (Release Candidate) images of TurnKey Linux 14.0 Core and TKLDev editions are available for download and testing. However, the new Live CD images will be available only for 64-bit hardware architectures, as 32-bit support might be discontinued.

"Things have been pretty crazy behind the scenes here over the last year or so," says Jeremy Davis on behalf of the TurnKey Linux team. "So with the recent release of Debian Jessie we have decided to cut our losses and sidestep the v13.1 maintenance release."

TurnKey Linux 14.0 is built on top of Debian 8.0 Jessie

Being a major version and all that, the base TurnKey Linux 14.0 images will be built on top of the Debian GNU/Linux 8.0 (Jessie) operating system, but the TurnKey Linux team needs the help of the community more than ever, as there are significant changes in the new Debian 8 distribution that need to be implemented and rigorously tested.

You can test the TurnKey Linux Core 14.0 RC1 and TurnKey Linux TKLDev 14.0 RC1 builds right now via Softpedia. Please report bugs on the official TurnKey Linux issue tracker. Once the release of TurnKey Linux 14.0 is out, all the appliances will be updated as well, and new community-developed appliances integrated.

Softpedia is proud to offer you a wide range of TurnKey Linux virtual appliances that can be used to deploy some of the major web-based projects on bare metal, in the cloud, or in a virtual machine in just a few minutes and with minimum effort.
