FLIR One is not a device that showed up on Kickstarter and the company behind it has been recognized as one of the world leaders in manufacturing sensor systems for thermal imaging, situational awareness and security applications. Its makers describe FLIR One as a case that is fit for home, work and play.
When it comes to the house, this device can help you isolate places of possible warm or cold air leaks so you can optimize your home's energy. You can also identify wet areas and potential leaks in the ceiling, walls and floors. If an electrical outlet is overloaded and gets too hot in the wall, you can see that before it becomes a fire hazard.
The device itself will not detect water, but it will tell if there's a temperature difference between two surfaces. If you run hot water in a clogged pipe, for example, you can see where that water is not flowing so you can tell where the problem is.
FLIR One is a good tool for work, as well.
