While adding a remote control to Sony's PS3 gaming console is not exactly a very difficult task, by all accounts, things do get a bit more difficult when one wants to use one of the iDevices as a remote, but it seems that there's a half-DIY solution available out there that will do exactly that. That solution is the PS3MINI Bundle from Remote Shoppe and is formed out of the new ThinkFlood RedEye mini universal remote control accessory for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch and the wb_electronics RE-BL X infrared to Bluetooth adapter for the Sony PlayStation 3, the end-result being the fact that users will be able to control Blu-ray playback on the PS3 via their iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. The RedEye mini Portable IR Adapter is the main piece of gear the bundle has to offer and its main function is to transmit commands from the iDevice to the PS3, making use of the enhanced control options provided by the multi-touch display equipping all of the portable Apple products mentioned above. The adapter attaches to the audio jack, receiving signals from the device that are then sent out via the built-in IR emitter. Of course, in order to control the PS3, the RedEye solution requires a suitable application, that is also available for download. However, since the PS3 doesn't feature an IR remote sensor, relying instead on Bluetooth connectivity, the bundle also includes the wb_electronics RE-BL X infrared to Bluetooth adapter, whose purpose is, quite obviously, to “translate” the commands sent from the IR adapter attached to the Apple device to the Bluetooth protocol. Last, but certainly not least, we'll have to mention that the whole bundle retails for just around $99.95, which is an extremely interesting price point, especially for those DIY fans out there that love both the PS3 and their Apple products.
