The people at Balmuda design have decided to address a lacking feature on Apple’s wireless keyboard, as well as for notebook keyboards, by introducing a one-of-a-kind application that turns the iPhone’s screen into a numeric pad. NumberKey is available in both free and paid form.

Whether you’re running Mac OS X on your MacBook or Windows on any notebook, NumberKey can work for you. To use it, you are required to first download and install the free NumberKey Connect application which serves as the computer side of the solution. On the iPhone / iPod touch side, users must either purchase NumberKey for 2 bucks from the App Store, or download the Free (limited) version from the same location. Requirements include an iPhone or iPod touch running iPhone OS version 2.2.1 or later,  a Mac computer running Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) or 10.4 (Tiger) / Windows computer running Vista or XP, and a Wi-Fi base station which is connected to both your iPhone/iPod touch and computer.

“Wouldn't it be useful if your notebook computer had a numeric keypad? The NumberKey does just that,” explains Balmuda design. “The NumberKey turns your iPhone/iPod touch into a portable numeric keypad so you can use it at your home, office, or even when you're on-the-go.” For the full version of the NumberKey, key features are listed as follows on its designated iTunes page.

- Black, white, silver, and classic skins.
- Option to switch from "clear" key to "delete" key.
- On/Off function of the "comma" key.
- (NEW!) On/Off function of the "Carousel key Panel" .
- (NEW!) On/Off function of the "tab" key.
- (NEW!) On/Off function of input screen allowing you to view the numbers you have typed.
- Connect easily and automatically with Bonjour technology.
- Even when you are out and without access to a Wi-Fi base station, you can easily create a new network on your Mac and connect it to your iPhone/iPod.
- Use with your Apple Wireless keyboard conveniently.
