'Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit of the Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan' has managed to do what no other movie has done in America since 'Fahrenheit 9/11' came out: running on a very limited number of screens all around the country, 'Borat' topped the $20 million record Moore's documentary set.
As it is always the case with somebody unexpectedly making huge sums of money, the Cambridge-educated British comedian is no stranger to rip-offs. After the farcical movie became a hit in the US, a man in Turkey started making waves and saying that Cohen based his character on him, totally stealing it from him.
Mahir Cagri - a 44-year-old cyber-celebrity who made it, thanks to his personal website, into the 'Top Ten Web Fads' and 'PC' magazine's '25 Worst Websites' - sees such a striking similarity between the comedian's character and his online persona that he thinks of taking legal action against the Borat creator and get a fair share of his profits.

Cagri claims that Cohen borrowed from the images he posted on his home page, to such an extent that, quote, 'the world knows he is copying Mahir. I'm not saying it - the world is.' 'I have received so many emails from peoples in the United States who tell me he is imitating me', Cagri said as argument. Either way, the Turk is now planning a trip to London, where he will meet with his manager and see which are the necessary steps.
He is asking for some sort of 'acknowledgment or an apology' and, of course, financial damages. 'The bombshell is going to fall. [Cohen] is making money by using me', Mahir said during a phone interview with the Associated Press. He says that Baron even stole his way of expressing himself and used it in the movie. As a sample, he refers to the closing fragment that appears on his site, which says: 'Who is want come TURKEY I can invitate... She can stay my home... I speake turkish, english, rusian, I want to learn other language!'
