Turbine has posted online the patch notes for the new Siege of Mirkwood expansion for the Lord of the Rings MMO and it has done a superb job of explaining all of the changes made to the experience as it gets its biggest amount of content this year. All those interested in getting the details related to the new release can check out the official Patch Notes section of the site. It might take players quite a while to get through them.

Siege of Mirkwood is the culmination of the Mines of Moria section of the game, allowing players to actually reach Dol Guldur, the infamous fortress of the Nazgul, and do battle with the terrifying servant of Sauron itself.

Alongside the introduction of the Skirmish System, Turbine has made changes to all the classes in the game while also modifying how Reputation works, the amount of things, which can be performed while on a mount, and the way Dread and Gloom works in The Lord of the Rings Online.

In the world of the subscription-based MMO, still dominated by World of Warcraft from Blizzard, The Lord of the Rings Online has had an unusual trajectory. It has not been hailed before release as being a WoW killer, as have been MMOs as different as Tabula Rasa and Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, but it has managed to attract a faithful audience of players who have stuck with the game since release and who are presumably going to be there as the whole story of the Tolkien saga is being told in MMO form.

Turbine has also done a very good job in offering support for players, steadily introducing new content as many players exhausted the previous offerings and making small changes that constantly improve the experience.
