The development team at Turbine working on The Lord of the Rings Online says that it has plans to introduce an entirely new character class to the MMO at some point in 2014, although it is not yet ready to offer any official information on it.

The announcement that the options available to the player will be expanded comes from Aaron Campbell, the executive producer, who mentioned it during a livestream event which was watched by Massively.

Despite the requests coming from the community, he did not disclose any sort of additional information about how his team planned to expand the universe of the game.

The developer did say that Turbine was working closely with Tolkien Enterprises, which owned the universe on which the MMO was based, and that the new character class had been chosen to make sense within the lore of the book trilogy.

Apparently, it has been mentioned in the novels written by J.R.R. Tolkien several times.

The Lord of the Rings Online is turning seven this year and the company has big plans for the MMO, which will celebrate by giving gamers access to Update 13.

It is designed to allow the player base to access a new Flooded Isengard area, which includes a chance to experience life as an Ent.

The North Downs area of The Lord of the Rings Online will be modernized with new graphics and content, in a manner similar to what was done to Moria before.

Gamers can also experience new content in the Southern Fangorn region, with an added chance to find a new special in-game friend and earn other interesting rewards.

Turbine is also teasing that later in 2014 or early in 2015 players of the MMO will be able to experience Gondor.

Update 13 for The Lord of the Rings Online does not currently have a launch date.

The Lord of the Rings Online is currently offered using a free-to-play mode, with gamers able to use microtransactions in order to get access to more content.

The MMO has been one of the first major titles in its genre to drop the monthly subscription in order to attract a bigger player base and the move has been very successful, with Turbine reporting that its revenue has increased.

The company plans to support The Lord of the Rings Online in the long term with both new content and expansions for the core mechanics.
