Keeps temperatures lower during overclocking

Enthusiasts are known for being very well versed in all things CPU and GPU and, most importantly, every possible way to make sure that their PC components don't suffer instant life loss when overexerted. When attempting an overclock, such individuals usually make sure they have a good enough active cooler or water cooling system ready to keep heat in check. In all cases, however, the final performance of the cooling solutions depends on how easily the heat from the CPU or GPU is conducted into the base plate of the assembly itself.

That which is tasked with leading heat from the chip to the cooler is known as thermal paste. For most people, even high-end users, the standard thermal grease sold on the market, and which most parts come with, is more than enough to ensure the survival of the processor. When extreme operating conditions are sought, however, it cannot always cope, which makes special thermal compounds, like the newly introduced Tuniq TX-4, necessary.

Tuniq is a subsidiary of Sunbeamtech and specializes in thermal pastes. So far, it has introduced the TX-1, TX-2 and TX-3. With each new iteration, heat conductivity and viscosity were enhanced or modified, in the effort of making it as effective as possible, which means that the TX-4 marks the farthest the company has progressed in this endeavor. The thermal conductivity of the gray paste is of 6.53W/mK and the temperature range is -45°C to 160°C, while viscosity is of 66,200 CP. Overall, the new thermal paste lowers temperatures by 5% compared toTtuniq TX-2 and 11% compared to generic thermal grease.

To show off its latest invention, the company used it on a Core i5 750 CPU, overclocked at 4.00GHz under Stress Prime 2004 and equipped with the Tuniq Tower 120 Extreme cooler. At a room temperature of 22 degrees Celsius, the chip reached a maximum of 68.5 degrees, compared to 77.3 degrees with standard grease. Consumers interested in putting the new TX-4 to good use will be able to get it starting with the beginning of May.
