Since the appearance of smartphones, the life of PDAs has started to dramatically shorten. Considering that all the functions, or at least the majority, are being implemented into a smaller, more complete, more comfortable device, buying a PDA is no longer justified. However, Palm is making one last effort and launches another Personal Digital Assistant model, Tungsten E2.
Even if it represents an improved version of its predecessor,
Tungsten E, the success of the new model will be inversely proportional to the fabulous ascension of smart phones. But Palm doesn't give up the fight, and fits its model with a brighter LCD with a resolution of 320 x 320 pixels, a much more resistant Li-ion battery and an improved support for Bluetooth connection. All these features will be available for 250 USD.
Tungsten E2's internal memory is 32 MB of ROM memory among which 26 MB for effectively storing data: calendars, contacts, applications, photographs, presentations etc. The lifespan of the battery has been improved, and even if the battery is emptying, the user doesn't risk to lose the information because they are stored on the flash memory.
Although it doesn't include a GSM connecting module, Tungsten E2 can administer emails by connecting a cell phone to it through Bluetooth. The same method can also be used for online navigation.
The PDA can be transformed into a MP3 player, and by attaching MultiMediaCard, SD and SDIO memory cards, the internal memory can be increased. On the same support, photographs can also be stored, allowing the user to have at all time his family picture album.
The engine that drives this device is one Intel XScale processor operating at 200 MHz and 32 MB of RAM.
