Tube+ Puts YouTube Back on Your iOS 6 iPhone

Those of you missing the dedicated YouTube application in iOS should wipe off those tears because the App Store is chock-full of alternatives – many actually much better than the original.

While you can put the original YouTube back on your iPhone, Apple now asks that you download it from the App Store (and Google asks that you look at some ads).

Since you’re taking the iTunes trip anyway, developer Chocomoko would like to entice you into downloading their $0.99 / €0.79 Tube+ application described as a wonderfully simple and beautiful YouTube client for iOS 6.

I haven’t tried it personally because there’s a sea of free alternatives out there that suit my modest VOD needs. But those of you who want to squeeze YouTube for all it’s got may find Tube+ a bargain.

It lets you watch your subscriptions, favorites, and uploads or public YouTube channels. You can manage your playlists and subscriptions, as well as download the videos for offline watching. This feature alone is well worth your dollar.

You can select the video format yourself (from 240 to 1080p) and share videos via Twitter, Facebook, Weibo, Mail, SMS and other social services.

The usual options to like, fave, dislike and read comments are there as well, and you can easily search for videos and write comments with a bunch of handy tools provided by Chocomoko (even the developer’s name is catchy!)

Plus, version 1.0.1 now sorts subscriptions and playlists alphabetically, imports YouTube links from your clipboard, adds an option to ignore the mute switch (in case you flip it accidentally), and adjusts the video title font size.

Lastly, when a video is playing, device auto-lock is now disabled, so you can watch until your battery dies out.

Chocomoko says Tube+ is compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation), iPod touch (5th generation) and iPad and requires iOS 6.0 or later. The app has been optimized for iPhone 5.

Hope my recommendation was worthwhile for YouTubers. Leave a comment if you feel like it.

For free you can get the official YouTube app from Google or the awesome YouTube App called Jasmine from the creator of the AlienBlue Reddit app. Why pay when the 2 best apps are free?
