Security firm Trustwave has announced the availability of a new mobile security practice that’s designed to help organizations that want to implement bring-your-own-device (BYOD) programs. The new solution enables companies to embrace mobility while making sure that all the associated risks are addressed.

The new offering provides compliance and risk services, and technology suits designed to protect data, devices and networks against malware and other threats.

“Mobility and BYOD are no longer theoretical – even for enterprises that think they've banned them – and the risk isn't confined to the devices themselves,” commented Wendy Nather, research director for the Enterprise Security Practice at 451 Research.

“They affect the entire organization from the standpoints of security and compliance. Trustwave understands this, and treats mobility not as an exception, but as the new business rule.”

Trustwave’s mobile security practice includes three main elements: enterprise mobility assessment services, BYOD “self-sealing” network protection, and Trustwave SpiderLabs services for mobile.

The mobility assessment services are provided by a team of compliance and risk management experts that identify potential risks and gaps. Based on these factors, they establish a balance between security and productivity.

The network protection security technologies offered by Trustwave are capable of immediately identifying and blocking users that access malicious locations. In addition, the security team is alerted of the incident.

Finally, the Trustwave SpiderLab can help organizations in testing BYOD deployments, applications and point-of-sale systems in an effort to identify security holes. This way, companies can constantly improve their security posture.

“Our new mobile security practice allows us to serve as a trusted advisor to our customers as they create a more holistic approach to mobility that includes risk assessments and proven technologies that enable them to improve their risk and compliance posture, deploy secure mobile applications to their customers, and protect their network from emerging vulnerabilities and threats,” explained Leo Cole, general manager of security solutions at Trustwave.
