IT security solutions provider Trusteer has released an infographic to highlight 5 of the most dangerous malware trends for the upcoming year.

According to experts, the fact that the source codes for various pieces of malware are leaked allows developers to accelerate malware release cycles. The capabilities of new malware variants make it almost impossible for classic antivirus solutions to detect them.

Another worrying trend involves mobile threats capable of forwarding SMS messages. Researchers believe that this feature will become standard in most major malware families.

In 2014, we’ll probably see a return of old-school cybercrime techniques, which in some cases might turn out to be much more effective than new ones.

Modern malware employs a number of mechanisms designed to evade analysis by researchers. Trusteer says research evasion will become even more popular.

Finally, cybercriminals will launch account takeover attacks directly from the victim’s computer by using remote access software.
