Some 40 firefighters have responded to an alert about a truck catching fire on the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge Sunday night, blocking traffic and making for a startling scene.
Fortunately, no bystanders have been injured in the blaze and the driver of the truck has managed to escape the blaze by climbing a barrier to safety.
According to Gothamist, witnesses describe hearing an explosion, as the truck was transporting oxygen tanks. The spark was lit by a regular engine fire.
A video of the incident reveals how traffic has been affected by the blast prompting a lockdown of the bridge. According to NY Daily News, the fire took about an hour to put out.
Fire crews were called in at 6:57 p.m. at the Queens entrance and were able to control it by 8:05 p.m.
