Professional American football strong safety for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Troy Polamalu, who has been featured extensively in Head & Shoulders campaigns, has just taken out an insurance policy for his trademark curls.

Polamalu has ringlets that can hardly be mistaken for someone else’s, while his hair is also very thick and healthy, which is the reason why the shampoo makers chose him in the first place.

They’re also determined to not let anything bad happen to those dark curls, having just taken out an policy on Polamalu’s name – valued at $1 million, People says.

The magazine spoke to the athlete himself and got confirmation that, indeed, a policy has been drawn up in his name – and it’s all because his curls are now too “famous” to risk something happening to them.

“Heads up NFL. Opposing teams had better mind the hair pulling – Head & Shoulders has taken out a $1 million Lloyds of London policy protecting their spokesperson, Pittsburgh Steelers’ Troy Polamalu’s famous ringlets,” People reports.

“It’s like J.Lo’s insured [backside]!” Polamalu himself jokes. He’s referring to a story that once made headlines around the world, according to which singer Jennifer Lopez had had her backside ensured for the same amount.

“The beauty brand has reason to keep Troy’s 35” tresses under lock and key: Women and men across America are desperate for the secret to those Samoan curls, with some of his manliest teammates even trying to score the secret,” People goes on to say.

Some of them even try to break into his locker and steal his products in the vain hope that they’ll get locks as rich and curly as his. So far, they haven’t had any luck with it.

However, having this kind of luscious mane is no picnic, the star explains for the same publication, as it takes him about 45 minutes to get ready before every game.

“It’s correlated to what a warrior in the past would do to prepare for war. You have the Mongolians, the Japanese Samurai, the Spartans – all of these warriors with long hair… and in that way you can almost get into the mind-way, preparing for some type of battle when you are doing your hair,” Polamalu says.

It’s been eight years since he last had a haircut and, now that there’s an insurance policy on his hair, chances are he’s not going to get one anytime soon either.
