Kalypso Media Digital, the publishers of the Tropico 5 city building strategy, have announced that Linux users can now enjoy the game on Steam.

Tropico 5 is the current iteration in the famous city building strategy title developed by Haemimont Games. The Linux version was announced way before the official release of the game, but the actual porting process took a little longer. In any case, Steam for Linux users who purchased this game on Windows can now access this title from their Linux account as well.

"This just in from the Tropican Department of Information: Tropico 5 is now available for Mac & SteamOS via Steam! Starting today, Mac & SteamOS users can now visit the island paradise of Tropico in the award-winning dictator simulation Tropico 5. Embrace your inner dictator and begin your dynastic rule as El Presidente, carefully plotting, coercing and glad-handing your way to complete control of the Tropican isle, all while laying the framework of continued rule through the Eras with the all-new Dynasty System," reads the official announcement from Kalypso Media Digital.

The developers have also published the system requirements. As you would expect, they are quite high, but that is not unusual, because this game features a powerful engine. You will need at least Ubuntu or SteamOS, a 2 GHz Dual Core CPU, 4 GB of RAM, GeForce 400 or higher, AMD Radeon HD 4000 or higher, Intel HD 4000 or higher, and 4 GB of available HDD space.

Stay tuned for a review that will arrive this week for the Linux version of the game.
