Developer Haemimont Games and publisher Kalypso Media have unveiled the final box art for both the PC and Xbox 360 versions of the upcoming tyrannical city-builder Tropico 5, set to release on multiple platforms this summer.

The box art features the evolution of El Presidente's dynasty, from 19th century colonial times up until present day, towering above the beautiful and glorious island of Tropico like the caring father it is.

In addition to the box art, the company has also revealed a few more in-game screenshots, showing the natural beauty of the island paradise as well as its incredibly advanced architecture.

Players will take on the role of El Presidente, the benevolent dictator ruling over Tropico, and will care for the island through the centuries, adapting to technological advancements and the ever-changing political climate.

Meeting the needs of your own people will prove to be as important as keeping an eye on your neighbors if your dynasty is to endure. Through the years, players will be able to appoint more and more members of their extended family in key positions of power, as ambassadors, commanding general and eventually Supreme Ruler, ensuring the continuation of the legacy and passing on the skills and abilities learned.

Tropico 5 will come with a host of new gameplay features and completely redesigned artwork, re-done from scratch and offering an even more ensnaring visual experience. Among the new gameplay features are advanced trading mechanics, scientific research trees and island exploration, uncovering new resources through the fog of war, as well as the hostile indigenous population.

For the first time in the series' history, up to four players will be able to cooperate or compete in multiplayer, sharing or battling over resources and influence, ensuring that Tropico 5 will deliver an even more challenging experience.

Players interested in trying out the experience firsthand can do so by opting in the Tropico 5 beta test, registrations for which are open on the Kalypso Media website. The beta test will begin sometime during March, and the company warned that all communication would take place in English, so knowing the language is a prerequisite.

Tropico 5 will be released on the Xbox 360, Linux, Mac and PC, with a launch window of Q2 2014. A PlayStation 4 version is also in the works, and it will follow the others later this year, expanding the Tropico brand to both a new generation of hardware as well as a new generation of gamers.
