Kalypso Media has announced that registrations for the beta test of the upcoming fifth installment in the popular dictator sim series Tropico are now open to everyone.

Players can take control of the ever-benevolent father figure El Presidente and bestow their guidance upon the tropical island paradise.

The beta will kick off in March, and registrations are open starting today, potential applicants being advised to apply immediately of their own free will, or else!

The company is looking for players characterized by an unhealthy enthusiasm for city-building games, with extensive experience playing similar titles, in order to ensure that everyone will work together for the common goal of creating the best possible game where tyranny and careful management go hand in hand.

The upcoming game features a ton of gameplay improvements as well as all-new art, designed from scratch, and takes the series into a whole new different direction with the introduction of dynasties.

Tropico 5 will allow its players to manage the country starting from its foundation in the 19th century colonial era, throughout the World War 2 and Cold War eras and up until the present 21st century.

The world will gradually change, and users are challenged to continuously adapt and tackle the changing needs of their people, as well as balancing the political side of life on the island, struggling against opposing governments and factions.

In typical banana country fashion, users will be able to promote members of their extended families in various positions of power, such as ambassadors, generals and even Supreme Ruler, to ensure that the family legacy will last throughout the ages, passing on the skills and experience earned.

The game will also introduce a host of other features and gameplay mechanics, such as advanced trading mechanics, scientific and technology research trees that will allow old building to be renovated into more modern variants, and island exploration complete with fog of war and native tribes.

For the first time in the series' history, Tropico 5 will allow for both cooperative and competitive multiplayer for up to four players, on any island map, where they have the option to either share resources and citizens or declare war on each other and vie for supremacy.

Registrations for the Tropico 5 beta test are now open on the Kalypso Media website, the page warning players that all communication taking place during the beta stage will be in English only.
