Kalypso Media, as the publisher, and Haemimont Games, as the developer, have announced that they are working on Tropico 4, a new game in the city building series, set to arrive on the PC and possibly on various gaming consoles.

The new game is set to again task the player with taking on the role of El Presidente, the ruler of an island lost somewhere in the Carribean, facing both internal and external challenges as he seeks to impose his will on his subjects and secure his future by amassing a fortune in his secretive Swiss bank account.

Tropico 4 will come complete with 20 missions built on a total of 10 new maps, each of them offering a different challenge to the management and political skills of the player.

There are also 20 new building like a shopping mall, a mausoleum to El Presidente, an aquatic park and a stock exchange, indicating the increasing standing and prosperity of Tropico.

There are also six new disasters that can easily destroy the said new buildings and can set back the development of the island.

The gameplay mechanics will be shaken up by the Council of Ministers, a new body where citizens can be appointed to get favor from factions and to push through controversial social and political reforms.

Players will also need to deal with the National Agenda, which includes objectives given to the player by internal political factions, foreign superpowers and other entities.

Tropico 4 will also include integration options for the social network Facebook and the micro blogging service Twitter, allowing players to broadcast their achievements and compare their tropical islands with other gamers.

At the moment the two companies working on Tropico 4 have not talked about a release window for the game and it's still not clear whether a version for the Xbox 360 or the PlayStation 3 will be launched.
