Trolltech (formerly known as Quasar Technologies) is a computer software company from Oslo, Norway. They provide software development platforms and frameworks, as well as expert consulting services.

Their flagship product is Qt, the easy-to-use, multi-platform, C++ Graphical User Interfaces (GUI) framework. In addition to the GUI toolkit, Qt also comes equipped with a variety of packages such as data structures and a networking library.

According to a recent announcement, the Trolltech company offered to provide free phones and software development kits for all those developers who are willing to target the Qtopia application development framework for mobile phones, during a program called Qtopia Greenphone Grant Program .

"Trolltech is proud to sponsor the Qtopia Greenphone Innovation Grant Program. The intent of the program is to put Trolltech?s Greenphone, a Linux mobile development device open for unlimited software innovation, into the hands of top developers and have cutting edge, best of breed applications delivered ..." wrote Trolltech officials on the company's website.

Regarding this program, David Bialer, ecosystem director, stated:

"We encourage open source developers to experiment and create innovative applications by participating in the Grant Program."

Those interested in it can submit their applications here starting with July 3 till August 7, 2007, but this term can be reduced depending on how rapidly the allocated devices run out. This presumes the submitting of an entry form which should include a description of the application you intend to develop. Created applications will be then promoted on Trolltech?s website. The applications? review will begin on or around July 3, 2007. The applications will be evaluated on criteria such as functionality, practical uses or originality. Currently rated as a development target, Trolltech's Greenphone is the first Linux-based GSM/GPRS phone to feature an open, user-modifiable OS.
