A new major update has been released for Trinity

Trinity, a desktop environment for Unix-like operating systems with a primary goal of retaining the overall KDE 3.5 computing style, has finally reached version R14.0.0 and is now ready for download.

Younger Linux users might not know that KDE was forked a few years back into the Trinity Desktop Environment. The developers had a very simple reason for this fork, as they wanted to preserve the design of the KDE 3.5 desktop.

KDE used to look a lot more like the Windows counterpart and part of the community actually liked it that way. Not everyone was happy with the direction of the KDE project and Trinity was born.

We now see a resurrection of Trinity, which remained kind of dormant for a few years. The time for sporadic and small changes seems to have passed and this is the first major stable release in a while.

There are still very few distros that actually use it, but some developers might change their minds when they see that Trinity is getting updated on a more regular basis.

The Trinity Desktop Environment is still living in the past

The The Trinity Desktop Environment is the perfect example of a very conservative solution for a desktop. Most solutions you find for a desktop usually evolve quite a lot over time, but not Trinity. Sure, it's a little bit more modern, but it has remained pretty much the same.

"The Trinity Desktop Environment (TDE) development team is pleased to announce the immediate availability of the new TDE R14.0.0 release. The Trinity Desktop Environment is a complete software desktop environment designed for Unix-like operating systems, intended for computer users preferring a traditional desktop model, and is free/libre software."

"Unlike previous releases TDE R14.0.0 has been in development for over two years. This extended development period has allowed us to create a better, more stable and more feature-rich product than previous TDE releases. R14 is brimming with new features, such as a new hardware manager based on udev (HAL is no longer required), full network-manager 0.9 support, a brand new compositor (compton), built-in threading support, and much more!," reads the official website.

More details about this release can be found on the official website. You can download Trinity Desktop Environment R14.0.0 right now from Softpedia. You can also test the new desktop environment by downloading one of the provided operating systems with this new version, including an Ubuntu one.
