Trine 2 will receive the Goblin Menace expansion on September 6, according to developer Frozenbyte, which has also confirmed that a beta stage is underway for those who got the game's Collector's Edition on the Steam digital distribution service.

Trine 2 delivered an impressive experience at the end of last year when it appeared on platforms like the PC, Mac, Linux, Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3.

Now, the game's developer, Frozenbyte, has confirmed an actual release date for its upcoming Goblin Menace expansion, revealing that it will make its way onto the Steam service for the game's PC and Mac versions on September 6.

In case you forgot, the Goblin Menace DLC for Trine 2 brings an all-new campaign with six unique levels and adds plenty of new skills that can even be activated in the original game.

In preparation for the add-on's launch, a hefty 2GB patch was also released on Steam which brings a variety of new features and eliminates any potential issues with the cooperative mode between players who have or don't have the DLC.

What's more, those who got the Trine 2: Collector's Edition via Steam can now access a beta version of Goblin Menace, which includes the first two levels. The beta will end on September 6, when the DLC officially goes on sale.

"We wanted to give our loyal fans something extra and also get some early feedback before the official launch. The Goblin Menace is compatible with the original Trine 2 in multiplayer, and this is one of the areas we want to focus on during the beta test. We've been working on the Goblin Menace for almost a year and are very proud of it. We can' wit for all the feedback," said Lauri Hyvarinen, CEO of Frozenbyte.

Trine 2: Goblin Menace will cost $7.99/ €6.99 and a small discount will be available for early buyers.

The DLC will soon appear for the game's Linux version, as well as on the Mac App Store. The upcoming Trine 2: Director's Cut edition that will be released for the Nintendo Wii U this winter already includes the add-on.
