Fronzebyte, the developer of the highly successful Trine puzzle platformer series, talked a bit more about the upcoming expansion for Trine 2, the latest entry in the franchise, and how it’s going to include all sorts of different elements.

Trine 2 impressed at the end of last year when it came out for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, delivering a top-notch experience with gorgeous visuals and a decent story.

After bringing the game to the Linux platform, Frozenbyte is currently working hard on the first expansion for Trine 2, which should be officially revealed this summer.

We already heard that it’s going to include an array of things, from a new single-player adventure, to new skills and items.

Now, Frozenbyte Vice President Joel Kinnunen discussed the DLC with Cheese Talks and revealed that it would be the best story-telling experience in the history of the independent studio.

“It's a continuation from Trine 2. It's a ‘so the heroes were returning from the adventure’ kind of a tale. I'm confident that the expansion will be our best story telling experience, we're still trying to integrate our story telling process into the game/level making process and Trine 2 suffered from that a bit, so with the expansion it looks like things will fall into place a little better.”

He also added that the expansion would introduce other things, including fresh skills that can be imported in the original single-player campaign.

“There is a lot of new stuff though, the expansion takes the game to a new level and the skills will be usable in the original campaign as well.”

Unfortunately, Kinnunen declined to mention an actual release date for the expansion, saying that more details about the DLC would be revealed in the near future.

Until then, fans will have to settle with the regular campaign in the beautiful puzzle platformer.
