Battlestar Galactica cross over

At BlizzCon, the developers working on Starcraft II at Blizzard announced that Tricia Helfer, who provided the voice for the Cylon model Number Six in the recently concluded Battlestar Galactica revival, was set to star as Kerrigan in the real time strategy that should be released in 2010. She joins a cast that already includes returning actors like Robert Clotworthy and James Harper, who are lending their voices to series stars Jim Raynor and Arcturus Mengsk.

Tricia Helfer told gamers that “It's intimidating to come into a game and to do a job that you don't really know the history of. I'm not going to pretend. I'm a video game [new comer] in terms of playing. It was intimidating not knowing the backstory and the history.” The actress is also set to provide voice work for the upcoming Halo 3: ODST. She was credited for work on Spider Man: Web of Shadows.

Presumably, Sarah Kerrigan, now styling herself as Queen of Blades and ruler of the Zerg, will be one of the key players in Starcraft II. After all, the initial game in the series was the tale of her corruption and transformation, with the overall conflict among the Protoss, the Zerg and the various Terran factions serving as a backdrop for her journey.

Players are hoping that Blizzard will be able to tell as good a story in Starcraft II and that Tricia Helfer will be able to push, through her voice work, the deviousness and the mysticism that define Kerrigan. Number Six from Battlestar Galactica was similar to the former Terran Ghost in having a dual character and a lot of internal conflict.

Starcraft II should be one of the biggest titles of 2010 but its release date could be marked by controversy, with Blizzard announcing that the game will not be featuring any LAN play, with Battle.net likely to be a payment-based service and with the developers confirming that gamers who create maps for the game will be able to charge for them.
