14 DAY TRIAL // Tricia Helfer, the former model and now actress that impressed the science fiction world as Number Six on the Battlestar Galactica series, has confirmed that she will be making an appearance, through her voice, in the upcoming Mass Effect 3, the mix between action and role-playing developer by BioWare and published by Electronic Arts.
A Twitter message coming from Tricia Helfer reads, “Just finished my first voice session for EDI in #MassEffect3. Fun!”
EDI is the Artificial Intelligence that powers the rebuild Normandy in Mass Effect 2, which suggests that Commander Shepard will use the same ship in the new game, presumably with some upgrades designed to combat the Reaper threat.
EDI was used mostly as a way to deliver narrative bits to the player in Mass Effect 2 although there were some pretty humorous lines of dialog between the computer and pilot Joker.
The two seem to be developing a close relationship, as seen in the short sequence where Joker needs to save the ship from invaders.
For Mass Effect 2 BioWare managed to get some pretty big name actors to lend their voices and their likenesses to characters, from Martin Sheen to Yvonne Strahovski.
Presumably the developer is aiming to deliver the same level of voice work for Mass Effect 3 and perhaps bring in other well-known names for newly introduced characters.
Mass Effect 3 was teased by BioWare late last year through a number of clues and a reveal trailer was shown at the VGA ceremony.
The company has not offered information on the plot of the game, but the trailer suggests that Commander Shepard will have to travel the galaxy and gather allies in order to destroy the Reapers that have invaded all major cities on Earth.
Having a ship like the Normandy and a computer voiced by Tricia Helfer will surely help with that mission.
