There are numerous YouTube-like services on the web, most of them targeting a certain consumer segment and a few of them having the same purpose as YouTube and competing with Google's video sharing service for the supremacy of the category. Another similar service was rolled out today,
TributeTube being
described as the easiest way to bring a video tribute to anyone you want, be it a friend, family or celebrity.
"In a modern society, the newspaper obituary will be replaced, or at the very least supplemented, via online videos and photo tributes", said Robert Burkhart, spokesperson for TributeTube. "TributeTube allows for people to memorialize, pay tribute, and grieve in 3D."
As mentioned, there are numerous YouTube-like websites on the Internet, some of them calling themselves YouTube killer because they were supposed to compete with the Mountain View-based company's service and steal a number of visitors. Obviously, all of them failed to reach their goals because only a small number of users were actually interested and curios to see what they're bringing new to the market. Think at Sony's eyeVio, which was also described as a new YouTube killer. Although everybody was expecting it, eyeVio remained an anonymous service and nobody heard of it after its official release. Just like the other services, TributeTube says it's different and people should, at least, give it a try.
"We intend on monitoring our site quite closely, constantly checking on comments posted about online videos. One of the issues with videos posted on YouTube was the profusion of inappropriate and offensive comments attached to very personal video material. We believe our site corrects this painful situation", Robert Burkhart added. "We felt there was no site on the Internet to host online videos of memorial and tribute."
