Streaming solutions will be added via the upcoming patch

Hi-Rez Studios, the developer of the recently launched Tribes: Ascend, has announced that it is launching a series of tournaments under the Summer of Tribes name, which are set to take place between May and August, which will be streamed via the Internet with commentary via TwitchTV.

The series of Tribesc tournaments will offer players more than 30,000 dollars (23,272 Euro) both in cash prizes and in in-game content.

The biggest prize will be offered by the NASL Season 3, which has its semi-finals at the E3 2012 trade show and the finals set to take place in Toronto, Canada with at big LAN event.

Todd Harris, the chief operations officer at Hi-Rez Studios, stated when the competitions were announced that, “Given that we just released Tribes: Ascend mid April, we’re pleased with how quickly the e-Sports community is growing.

“Our team believes that Tribes can be a premier spectator event and we’re thrilled to have partners who share this vision and support the community with great broadcast content as well as prizing.”

Kevin Lin, the chief operating officer at TwitchTV, added, “We enjoy working with developers like Hi-Rez Studios who harness live video to support their game community. At Twitch we’ve seen a phenomenal rise in eSports, and it is exciting to see the growing popularity of a fast-action FPS like Tribes: Ascend.”

The next patch for Tribes will allow players to view live matches via the streaming service, with the development team selecting the most interesting content to be featured.

Tribes: Ascend has been officially launched earlier during the year, after an extended beta period, and uses the free-to-play business model, allowing any player interested in multiplayer-oriented first-person shooter mechanics to try out the experience and see how it fits his/her own expectations.
