Development studio Treyarch has just issued a formal statement to all PlayStation 3 Call of Duty: Black Ops owners in which it talks about the recent issues that plagued the game since patch 1.04 went live, at the beginning of the week.

In case you don't know, the studio updated Call of Duty: Black Ops for the PS3 this week, but the 1.04 update brought even more issues than it solved.

More specifically, the game's online multiplayer mode was pretty much crippled by excessively long matchmaking times, lag and the fact that it caused the actual game to freeze or reboot the console altogether.

Gamers assaulted the PlayStation 3 section of the Call of Duty forums, so Treyarch community manager Josh Olin released a formal statement in order to quell down the angry customers.

According to Olin, a hot fix has been deployed, which fixes some of the issues encountered by players.

A full update is planned, and the whole development team is working hard on fixing all of the issues encountered by players.

"We are aware that many online players have been experiencing connectivity issues since Tuesday's patch. We have been working hard to track down the cause and fix them as quickly as we can. We've already updated the game with one "hot fix" since Tuesday's release that has improved many of those connectivity problems, and we've got more coming, so stay tuned."

"Forum feedback has been tremendously helpful. In fact, we've been on the forums, monitoring feedback and in a number of cases, working with community members directly, so please keep the feedback coming. In the meantime, know that we're committed to doing everything we can to support the best online experience, and we're working quickly to resolve this issue."

Olin also warns Playstation 3 Black Ops players to not follow a tip going around the web, which says that if you delete your save game data, the multiplayer will be improved.

Such a rumor is false and gamers shouldn't mess with the game's save data just for the sake of the multiplayer mode.

Has the hot fix generated any changes or is Black Ops' multiplayer still terrible on the PlayStation 3?
