In an effort to provide comprehensive security for the customers of its Azure cloud platform, Microsoft has expanded its strategic partnership with IT security solutions provider Trend Micro.

Trend Micro’s solutions will be utilized to protect customers of the Microsoft Azure and Windows Server 2012 platforms, but also users of applications like SharePoint. The products delivered by the security company are designed to provide comprehensive protection for operating systems, data and applications in cloud and hybrid environments.

“The ability to leverage the scale and agility of the cloud is critical for organizations of all sizes, but valuable information must remain secured,” explains Bill McGee, senior vice president and general manager of cloud and data center security at Trend Micro.

“To keep productivity and user satisfaction high, security needs to be reliable and convenient. To that end, Trend Micro is leading the way in providing comprehensive security solutions as cloud and virtualization adoption surges. Working with Microsoft allows us to reach a broad customer base that can benefit from the advancements we have made in these areas,” McGee adds.

“This is the beginning of a variety of initiatives where we will align with Microsoft to ensure use of cloud computing services can continue to accelerate and be protected to the same level, or better, than when the services were deployed internally.”

Three Trend Micro solutions will be used to deliver threat and data protection for Microsoft customers: Deep Security, SecureCloud and PortalProtect. New security features added to these products are being presented these days at TechEd North America in Houston, Texas.

For instance, Deep Security and SecureCloud provide security controls – like anti malware, intrusion detection systems (IDS), intrusion prevention systems (IPS), encryption and automated policy management – for virtual machines deployed in Azure.

Protection of data across SharePoint workloads is provided by PortalProtect. The solution is ideal for organizations transitioning from on-premise to Microsoft Azure.

“As we broaden the scope of our cloud and virtual solutions, we know that security will continue to play a primary role to meet our customers' needs,” Principal Group Program Manager at Microsoft Azure, Corey Sanders, says.

“That's why working with Trend Micro is so important to our overall approach. The company has consistently demonstrated expertise and commitment to delivering innovative security solutions to help customers securely achieve the full potential of the cloud. We look forward to continuing our work with Trend Micro in the future.”
