Phishing emails are highly problematic these days. They’re utilized as an attack vector in numerous attacks against high-profile companies.

So how can these threats be identified and mitigated before they allow cybercriminals to cause any damage.

IT security solutions provider Trend Micro has developed a new methodology that leverages big data analytics in an effort to detect phishing messages.

Detecting and filtering phishing emails based strictly on content can result in a large number of false positives. Classifying them based on the embedded malicious URLs can also be tricky since many of the malicious domains have an extremely short life span.

The technique developed by Trend Micro correlates large sets of spam data (IPs and email addresses) with one another in an effort to determine their sources.

Additional details can be found in the recently published white paper.
