Double Fine, the company behind the recent Trenched downloadable title on the Xbox Live Arcade, has announced that the game will be renamed into Iron Brigade all around the world, not just in Europe, where it's going to be released later this fall, alongside a fresh downloadable add-on.

Trenched is a stylized hybrid between regular tower defense strategy games and third person shooters, where players actually control towers, or more like mechanical walkers, around a battlefield in a retro World War I backdrop.

The game was released back in June in North America and was confirmed for launch in Europe this month, only with a new name, Iron Brigade, due to trademark issues on the Trenched brand.

Now, in order to accommodate the global multiplayer mode baked into the game, Double Fine announced that Trenched is going to be renamed into Iron Brigade in the rest of the world, so that players can get together online no matter their home continent.

The name change will be part of a bigger update for the game that is going to be released at the same time as the European version later this month.

Alongside it, a new downloadable add-on will be deployed, bringing a new survival mode to Iron Brigade, which was demanded by fans for quite some time. The mode takes place on the African Hospital level, and pits players against waves of enemies that get more difficult over time.

New unlockable items are included, like weapons, costumes or gestures, while another batch of downloadable content might appear at a later time, according to the Double Fine representatives that talked with Whiskey Media during their 'Big Live Live Show'.

As of yet, however, Iron Brigade still doesn't have a concrete release date in Europe, except the loose September one, so Xbox 360 owners need to be patient until new details arrive.
